This Economy's Winners and Losers

[ From the transcript of the speech ]: There is a war going on in this country, and I am not referring to the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. I am talking about a war being waged by some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in this country against the working families of the United States of America, against the disappearing and shrinking middle class of our country. The reality is, many of the Nation’s billionaires are on the warpath. They want more, more, more. Their greed has no end, and apparently there is very little concern for our country or for the people of this country if it gets in the way of the accumulation of more and more wealth and more and more power. Mr. President, in the year 2007, the top 1 percent of all income earners in the United States made 23 1/2 percent of all income. The top 1 percent earned 23 1/2 percent of all income–more than the entire bottom 50 percent. That is apparently not enough. The percentage of income going to the top 1 percent has nearly tripled since the 1970s. In the mid-1970s, the top 1 percent earned about 8 percent of all income. In the 1980s, that figure jumped to 14 percent. In the late 1990s, that 1 percent earned about 19 percent. And today, as the middle class collapses, the top 1 percent earns 23 1/2 percent of all income–more than the bottom 50 percent. Today, if you can believe it, the top one-tenth of 1 percent earns about 12 cents of every dollar earned in America.

Reply…There is no over population in USA,the low birthrates of Europe will cause the collapse of their retirement programs……You do know it takes a 3 tax payer to one retiree at a minimum for it to stay solvent????

Sure, and education, and connections, and being the right color, and having no expensive illnesses in the family, and having the right orientation.

By the way – way to contribute to the overpopulation problem.

Yes, and many of them can barely afford to keep a roof over their heads, despite working full time.

And beyond all that, the fact remains that they still do give back to the country, either through local investment, or (for many of them) because they’re part of the armed forces.

  9. ClarksonsinUSA says:

Large number of people get more back in federal tax returns, than they paid in federal tax’s…..That’s a fact…

  10. Alteredstory says:

The bit about payroll taxes, yes, although a number of people who don’t HAVE to pay federal taxes do pay them anyway, either through ignorance or poor filing practices.

  11. ClarksonsinUSA says:

I think, you might want to reexamine that statement??? :)

  12. Alteredstory says:

That is factually inaccurate. Every adult pulling in a paycheck pays payroll taxes, and that’s not to mention various state taxes.

When they don’t pay federal income tax, a large part of what they’re not paying for, they don’t USE. well over half of income tax goes to the military. The rest goes to things that states also help pay for, like infrastructure and education, plus a couple things like non-military research and diplomacy.

For All to have dignified living without wars, inequality and all kinds of global, local and personal problems we need a global system that supports All Life Equally. To establish an Equality-based system All humans have to continuously lose Self-Interest and live according to what is Best For All Equally. There are courses with which a person can support oneself and others in the change. I recommend all to find and read the websites of ‘Equal Money System’, ‘Desteni I Process’ and ‘Desteni’.
