  6. If money is "free speech" then why isn't it applied across the board? If you can "speak" by giving money to political campaigns then why would it be illegal to give money to a prostitute? Aren't you just "speaking" with them? In just about any other country a corporation or incredibly wealthy person giving vast sums of money to a political campaign would be considered corruption. Being that the Democratic Party has no problem with legalized corruption I don't see them fighting against Gorsuch.

  9. The Democrats are going to keep their powder dry on this one. We can't fight the GOP and will risk losing the filibuster altogether. It would be best to wait for their moment, otherwise they might seem to be too belligerent.

    Said no progressive ever.

  10. I absolutely disagree with you here. You want to go back to some good old days when the political process was better. The reality is that our political system has always been defective, and until you admit that you can never resolve our issues. Again, this is the problem with poli sci majors. You think in a paradigm that's based on the ideal that the U.S. is or was the best system ever, and your thoughts spin in narrow circles. There is a reality outside your little box.
Yes, we must accept that our current system is what it is, but we do not have to operate within those bounds. We need to create a better society outside and despite our current government; then, maybe, government will follow.
Perhaps, maybe, if our government moves to the extreme right/fascism (noting it's already damn close), people will be more motivated to create change. At that point, though, creating change may be much more difficult.

  11. Emma, my single greatest concern with a Justice is to make sure that if a president is legally impeached, and then it is confirmed in the senate, that said justice will in no way help the former president illegally hold onto the office. I would like to think Gorsuch at least makes that muster. Thoughts?

  12. She doesn't speak particularly well, but that could improve, even if she just slowed down. I haven't a clue what going to an 'ivy league university' has to do with anyone being qualified for anything, but being corrupt and arrogant, and she couldn't be more out to lunch with her 'don't politicize judicial appointments' horse shit. What an abject moron. The other side does it, this nomination is an idiot, and this is how it is. Make it as hard as possible on this guy. She has a lot to learn, I've noticed.

  13. I really don't understand the use of the pronoun "we" when talking about democrats losing. Is Emma and the rest of TYT a democratic organization? If so, I need to stop following. The dems are the reason we have the rump since they blocked the candidate who most of the country actually wanted. Emma, can you please be more impeccable with your words? Who is this "we" you speak of?

  14. Wrong again. She somehow things things didn't used to be politicized. They just stole a judge from the Democrats. I think she's working on her bid to be a corporate Democrat one day. I can totally see that.

  18. Sorry, Emma, can't agree that "we" (Democrats, progressives) should become peacemakers and limit ourselves to sane, constructive Supreme Court nominating procedures. The Republican nominees became extreme during the Reagan era and it's obvious the process has become 100% political for them. If you try to counter off-the-wall Republican nominees with Obama-style appeasement (try to see their side, give them a bit of what they want, try to get them to like and trust you, etc.) you will get Obama-style results (bend over). Neil Gorsuch is a regressive authoritarian @$$hole who deserves to be boo'd out of his own confirmation hearings.

  19. Sorry, but every single Democrat that votes for Gorsuch has to be primaried. I hope I misunderstood you and that you aren't for the Dems simply rolling over and not putting up a fight against the GOP, who stole this seat, otherwise this might be the dumbest thing ever said on this channel by a host.

  20. why don't you have independent judges? complete the trias politica and let the judges appoint judges?

  21. clean slate is needed.only way to depoliticize things is to remove all of the failures that hold on to their seats as spoiled children that know things will stop going their way as soon as they are removed from power.

  22. Of course he will be "borked". The Dems might not have the numbers, but they can philibuster his ass. I don't give a fuck about the politicization of the supreme court, its been this way for decades. We have to work with in this system and this system demands this pick to be blocked just like the Republicans blocked Obama's pick. The Republicans had a chance to vote for a MODERATE with Obama's pick and they didn't even give him a hearing. Fuck them. Stop Gorsuch's nomination or get the fuck out of the Senate.
