  4. These are both highly intelligent, articulate and informed men. But the one thing they have not addressed is whether or not the EU itself will survive the next ten years.

The winds of change are blowing through at least a dozen member countries. A lot of people are going to be shocked later this year with the results of the EU elections..National elections in several countries have already shown a shift away from the European center-left parties. The EU reform bloc will increase, perhaps double. And local political parties will continue to move right.

By election time the UK will be out of the EU and lining up new trading arrangements worldwide. Within five years, the UK will have convinced the continental EU members either to stay or leave the EU.

Nobody knows which way the wind will blow. But I would bet that the UK will not only survive but prosper and other member-states will leave the EU.

What these gentlemen have not considered is that UK center-left cohorts may wish to rejoin the EU, but there may be no EU to join. Not if France, Germany, Italy and Poland continue to shift towards nationalist populist parties.

  5. 11:30 You are trusting that labour will change.. but you are mistaken, labour will never change, there are too many hard core social democrats in the party who rejects the open closed dichotomy and will try to ignore it in favour of continuing a class war that people just aren't as interested in any more. Don't get me wrong the super rich still needs to be reigned in but the problem of parties like labour is that they strike against the middle class a lot more than they do against the 0.1% who are the ones who have been exploiting the system for decades now.

Any way what you will see instead is that a greater number of young people will feel disenfranchised and ignored in the open/closed dichotomy and this will lead to much more serious unrest than you seems to imagine. Hopefully ending in the downfall of the two party system.

  6. It should make people realise how bias the BBC are, and pretty much all of the MSM. Populism will only get stronger. People are beginning to realise that the media and most politicians are greedy globalists. The couldn't give a fk what the people want.

  7. We'll inevitably rejoin but without all the exemptions and the rebates which mean we have the best possible membership deal of all the EU countries.

It's an absolute tragedy for the UK and proof a country can have a psychotic breakdown. Quite possibly we will have to accept the euro.

  8. The UK doesn't need a new political party as this will only serve to further expose the ridiculous nature of the FPTP minority winner takes all silliness of the current electoral system. The UK needs a grown up democracy where political parties build consensus by way of compromise (as in other mature democracies in Europe) and leave FPTP to banana republics. The only way forward is proportional representation. Then we can say goodbye to this version of the Tories forever.

  14. Lifelong labour voter here, and I will not vote for that shower again in my remaining years, if they continue to steer the country towards disaster, and continue to collude with the right wing tories in doing so.
Labour is lead by lying, duplicitous sheep, and unchallenged by as many sheep, whatever their inclination towards honesty. If labour join hands with the Quitters and lead us out of europe, this will NEVER be forgotten by the Remainers, and the young will likewise remember when the many stood by and did nothing.
A new, reasonable party, looking to take the best of current party policies, and yes, maybe centrist, would dominate, and certainly get my vote. (libdems, unless you get a voice, you can carry on sitting at the back of the class)
Call it Better Together, and deliver us from the absolute shower of sh¡t that currently bay in the HOC! La lucha continua!

  15. Both the so called Labour & Torry Parties are so discredited they will be called to explain their Duplicity over Brexit. People must ask why are so many bilingual immigrants wanting to get in the UK. If the EU is suchna Utopia. UK remainers watching must see how desperate the immigrants in France are to get into the UK, then they must ask themselves why are we voting to stay into the dying EU!

One possible answer is that many thousands of EU nationals presently residing in the UK do not want to pay the costs of becomingb a British Citizenship, thus, they Voted against Brexit. Incidentally these people should have never been allowed to vote on Brexit without being a UK citizen!

  27. I'm a white working class Brit in my 50s. The fact is that the Green Party and the Labour party are for both the working class and the middle class, and always have been. Without Labour, for example, we'd have had no NHS over the last 70 years, which has benefited all who cannot afford private healthcare. Too many working class people are mistaken about UKIP and Brexit, and think that is the only choice for them to represent their class, but unless you have far right fascist Nazi views, think again about supporting them. I didn't realise that UKIP were so far right fascist until the other day, when I looked at a well known UKIP youtube channel who was blatantly promoting Oswald Mosely, (Leader of the British Union of Fascists before WW2 and a personal friend of Hitler, who attended Mosleys wedding at Goebbels home in 1936). Remember that Britain fought the Nazis in WW2, our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers fought and died to protect Britain from far right fascist Nazism. Also, UKIP/Brexit is doing the bidding of the extremely rich 1% elite who want to avoid taxes on their millions/billions – a lot of UKIP/Brexit supporters are very rich, including Farage, Rees-Mogg, Rupert Murdoch etc and it's no coincidence that the new EU law aiming to end tax-dodging is happening this year. Wake up, non-Nazi traitor and non-1% rich elite Ukippers/Brexiteers, you are being conned by and recruited by Britains former WW2 Nazi enemies, many of whom are millionaires/billionaires. If you don't believe me, do unbiased factual research and see that I'm telling the truth….

  28. That was a pretty objective analysis and an interesting discussion. However, they didn't really touch on our ridiculous "first past the post" system, or fact that there's a huge gap in the market for a centrist party. The Conservatives cover some of this ground but people are sick of them now, and Labour have gone too far left. I believe a new party could make waves in the political landscape with all ages and be successful.

  29. The mistake these guys are making is that they keep talking about age demographics – but research shows that the way somebody votes is based much more on their IQ and EQ and values, than their age (or class). Remain voters and Leave voters come from all age and class brackets. These guys seem to ignore/minimise that.

  31. A political realignment is required but first past the post stops it, so lots of voters now feel unrepresented. And the huge failure of the AV referendum killed off voting reform. Be afraid as MPs refuse to make hard choices to avoid risk of party split.

  34. Brexit is a loss of freedom. UK citizens have been enjoying four fundamental freedoms (to move, settle, study, offer and receive goods and services, bid for jobs and contracts with no discrimination under the same terms as any other citizen). These freedoms open an area of 500 million people to us. They will be taken away from us after Brexit. Exactly because a treaty can be withdrawn at any time by a government, no treaty can fully substitute for the four fundamental freedoms we are losing for the delusion of 'taking back control'. This essentially means our politicians having more control over our lives than previously!
